Details: Real-life couple Montana Iverson (Sam Wheat) and Charmien Byrd (Molly Jensen) tenderly intertwine in this pleasant local premiere concerning love, loss and letting go based on the hit Academy Award-winning 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. Soulful, sassy Dwan Hayes as storefront psychic Oda Mae Brown, Dylan Jackson as deceptive Carl Bruner, Kevin Ray Johnson as the furious Subway Ghost, Sam Evans as comical Mrs. Santiago, and vocalists Elana Danielle Elmore (Clara) and Sierra Jones (Louise) are among notable featured portrayals. Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard’s original score includes the classic hit “Unchained Melody” famously heard in the film.

Details: Charles Busch’s funny, naughty, queer-friendly and camp-tastic comedic thriller “Die Mommie Die!,” is directed with uninhibited glee by Chris Harmon. John-Michael Lander, exquisitely costumed in 1960s glamour by Janet Powell, is melodramatic as washed-up Hollywood entertainer Angela Arden, who murders her severely constipated film producer-husband Sol (comically committed Becky Howard) to the horror of her dysfunctional children Edith (playful Amber Todd) and Lance (eccentric Maren Wasser). Amy Taint as Angela’s Bible-thumping maid-turned-nemesis Bootsie Carp and Everett Green as Angela’s boytoy Tony Parker also accent Busch’s silliness. In addition to Harmon’s attractive scenic design, praiseworthy artistic contributions extend to Andrew Darr’s striking lighting design particularly late in Act 2, Diane Strohm’s humorous props, and David Sherman’s exceptional projection design that establishes period and tone with kooky finesse.

Details: A native of Zimbabwe, Kainga moved to the United States in 2001 and began his comedy career in 2005 in Dallas, TX, where he was a two-time finalist in the Funniest Comic in Texas Competition. In 2016 he made his television debut on Comedy Central, performing in Kevin Hart’s “Hart of the City.” He has also appeared on the Chad Prather Comedy Shootout on RideTv in 2018, and is a staple feature in comedy clubs across the country as well as colleges and universities.
